Post 9/11 And Trauma Recovery Work: New Developments And Implications For Clinical Treatment Of Trauma

The trauma of the 9/11 attack and how therapists responded to the crisis using mostly critical incident debriefing methods of trauma work is now being challenged as not effective.  This controversy has initiated a rethinking of how best to help people recover from traumatic events, including grief and loss reactions to the loss of a significant other.

In this seminar, we will discuss the following issues:

-     Actual 9/11 trauma work, what worked and did not work in the crisis

-     Review of current clinical thinking as to how trauma work should be conducted

-     A review and discussion of the current controversy in the trauma field

-     Discussion and presentation of new techniques and approaches to trauma recovery work

-     Comparing the differences between acute and chronic trauma and PTSD
